Incarnate was a really fresh read for me. This is the first time that I’ve read a young adult book that covered the concept of reincarnation which is an interesting topic to write about. First off, look at that amazing cover? It’s not only amazing, but it also has something to do with the story! This book is about people being reincarnated for millions of years, but things change when Ana, a new soul, arrives. Due to her existence, one of the old souls has vanished (or did that soul really vanish?) and causes the others to freak out because they’re worried that they will be the next one to be replaced. I mean, they’ve been reincarnated for millions of years and now they discovered that one of them is permanently dead! That’s new to them!
The first four chapters were kind of confusing. Since it is a ya fantasy, there were some terms that made me say “huh? What is that?” etc. But as the book progressed, it got more interesting and clear. What I liked about Incarnate is that it not only involved dragons, it also involved music. It’s cute how Sam spends time with Ana teaching her how to play the piano. I also love how they have this masquerade ball where they all the citizen of Heart dresses up and during the party, they end up with their soul mate. How cute is that?
The thing I did not like is that even though we meet lots of characters, we didn’t really “knew” them. I hope in the next book, we get to know more about the cast. In this one, it was more of action than getting to know the characters’ lives. The romance was just okay for me. It didn’t really stand out, and is like other books so I don’t really have a strong opinion on it. The ending was epic! I was so surprised with everything that was happening and wasn’t expecting it. While there were a lot of stuff revealed to us, there are still more stuff that we don’t know about which I am looking forward to in the sequel.
