After Ella and Reed's ARC was finished Erin Watt decided to continue The Royals series with Easton's story, told in two parts. You don't have to read the previous three books to understand this one, but I recommend you do. It does end with a cliffhanger.
I missed the angst, anticipation and the overall atmosphere the authors had previously build for this universe. I felt this novel was the most childish so far, even though it continued to present some mature themes.
Hartley was difficult to relate to, I couldn't grasp her back story, it didn't make any sense in my opinion. Maybe this would've been less of a problem if we had her POV from the beginning. Easton at the start looked like a fun, complex and charming hero, but turned out he wasn't a great main character, he got repetitive very fast and his motivations were also hard to understand. Their relationship developed in an awkward way, and perhaps that was my biggest issue with this novel, where was the Romance after all?
Sadly, I had several problems with Fallen Heir. It lacked character growth, was very repetitive and there wasn't enough chemistry between the main couple. The ending was all over the place, maybe written for the sake of shock since that's what readers can expect from The Royals ' books. I know what Erin Watt can do, but unfortunately, Hartley and Easton weren't strong enough for this series.
