My thoughts:
I enjoyed the first book in this series, Brownies and Broomsticks, and of course anything with magic and a cozy mystery is right at the top of my list. I enjoyed this one, but probably not quite as much as the first one. I am a little bit behind on reading this one as it was released back in December of last year. The next one in this series, Charms and Chocolate Chips was recently released, so I will be reading that one next. I like Katie's character, but the love triangle relationship she has going on really gets on my nerves. I can't stand books that go back and forth between romantic love interests. It's like pick a guy already and move on.
Other than that little factor, this was an okay read. It was a little predictable and didn't have a lot of clues or mysterious suspects. The majority of this story was spent on Katie's love life. I like a hint of romance in my stories, but nothing overwhelming. I think that it takes away from the general story and leaves the mystery seriously lacking. I like reading about the witchcraft and the spells and the paranormal suspense was intriguing.
Katie once again finds herself stumbling over yet another dead body. Of course, she can't leave it well enough alone and finds herself embroiled in a mystery with a secret society that has it out for her. She must fend off murderers and dark magic at the same time. An interesting and quick read, nothing too substantial, but enough to keep your attention for some time. Off to read the next one in this series, to see if perhaps that book will be better than this one.
