This is the first book in an all new Soup Lover's mystery. Connie Archer has done well with her debut of this series and the characters set in small town, Snowflake, Vermont. I loved the setting of this book. A small town in Vermont that relies on the tourists that frequent the local ski resort. A small town where everyone knows everyone and little is kept secret. The main character, Lucky Jamieson, has returned to the small town of her childhood after her parents were killed in a car accident. She takes over the small soup shop that they spent years building up, for the time being, until she can figure out what she wants to do with her life. She slowly eases herself back into the small town life and then she is blindsided when a tourist is found dead behind her soup shop and her soup chef is the main suspect in the murder.
Lucky is a take life by the horns type of character and soon involves herself in trying to exonerate her chef. Secrets come out about this mysterious tourist and motives for murder are soon being shared amongst the townsfolk. Lucky's soup shop business has dwindled to almost nothing after the murder and she has to solve this murder quickly before she finds herself filing bankruptcy.
This, in my opinion, was a cute cozy mystery. The way cozies should be written. A small town with lovable characters and a plot that leaves satisfied at the end. I cannot wait for the next addition to this series which appears to be titled A Broth of Betrayal. I have no idea when it will be released but can't wait to see where the main character, Lucky, is headed. The only issue that I had with this book was at times things fell into place a little too easily. I know that this is fiction, but some of the things that occur in this book had me thinking to myself "well that would never happen in real life." Other than that, this was a great cozy mystery and a great read for one of those cool fall days where you just want to curl up with a good book. Highly recommend this for cozy lovers and for people who enjoy quick and fun reads.
