Reversible Tree Skirt

By Vixenmade @vixenMade
Is anyone else putting up their Christmas tree?
I love to decorate early.  And because in Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving in October, there's no holiday between Halloween and Christmas.  That makes it easier to decorate solely for the season!
Which is why I like to put up my tree as soon as my Halloween stuff comes down.

Since I changed my tree color theme this year, I needed a new tree skirt.
Tree skirts can be pricey.  Especially if you want something pretty.
So I decided to try making my own this year.  Why not!?

Since I wanted both my tree decorations and tree skirt to go with my livingroom colors, I chose a pattern and color I had picked up months ago (on clearance, of course).  I love damask, so I had to buy it.  Plus, how perfect that it had the yellow, orange and gray colors within it!
I also had a few yards of forest green fleece fabric that worked great for the underside.

I used an old tree skirt as a template (though I wanted mine to be a circle without the scallops in this one, so I drew around those), drawing with a fabric marker, then cutting out with scissors.

Be sure to mark out the center and a slit from the center out.

Using this fabric piece, lay it over your second fabric choice and cut around the shape.

Next, cut 4 or 6 pieces of ribbon for the ties.  Each piece should be about 10 inches long.

Lay your fabric pieces together, right sides facing in.  Pin your ribbon along the slit opening, where you want the ties to be.  You want the ribbon to be sandwiched between (not shown) the fabric pieces and pinned together.  Continue by pinning your tree skirt pieces together.

Then double pin to mark out where you want your opening so you can flip your skirt right side out.  You'll want it about 8 inches long or so.

Sew all around the perimeter of your tree skirt, leaving the opening.  Then clip your corners and trim any excess of the edges if needed.

Flip your tree skirt right side out.  Then fold under the opening and pin together.

Sew again all around the outer edge, sewing your opening closed.

I love the colors with the livingroom, and especially the tree!

And next year, I might want to use the cozy forest green side.
