Remember Not The Former Things

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.” (Isaiah 43:18 ESV)

remember not the former thingsEvents of the past can easily take up residence in our thoughts. Yesterday’s disappointments, although over now, continue to live on in our hearts.

This New Years Eve I am encouraged to release from my mind the former things. They are done away with. The trials of 2014 are over now. There is no way to go back and do it all over again. There is only moving forward in the hope, love and grace of God.

All that happened in 2014, even the bad things, was for a reason. Some these we bring upon ourselves and some things come to strengthen us. Whatever the case, God wants to move us forward and restore. Therefore, I let God control the purpose of past events and yield to His promises for tomorrow.

Do not consider the things of old. Pondering what was or how we wish things had been, stirs our emotions and effects our outlook for the new year. Faith in a brighter future is clouded when rehashing again and again the loss and the hurt that we endured.

God is progressive. He is always working something new in our lives, taking us higher and growing us stronger in Him.

There is not enough room in our hearts for old negativity and new hope.

There is provision in 2015. There are ways in the wilderness and rivers in the desert says the Word of God. So why fret over the former things? Why continue to relive in our thoughts what God has said is over?

What has past can not compare to what God is going to do. Consider those things.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy..

…think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8 NIV)

May you enjoy God’s abundance in 2015 and beyond! Remember not the former things.
