Think back to your first dose of independence, now think back to your first apartment. If you, like me, had a very limited budget and roommates, your dream interior style may not have been shown. But if you could go back with the sense of design and resources you now have, how would you reimagine your first apartment?
Moving into your first place is exciting, it’s a time to make an impression and showcase your personal style. My first apartment in college was in my sorority house, nothing like you see in the movies, instead an older home, filled with hand-me-down furniture three girls brought together, and plenty of painting days and projects we took on to make the space our own.
Being one to shy from modern interiors, I was completely turned on to this style’s clean lines and simplicity by Modani. Modani designs modern and contemporary furniture with affordable prices in their several locations and on-line market, even offering design consulations, which makes it a great source for all your design projects! I caught myself eyeing pieces that are both a statement and a necessity in any apartment. Although, my style isn’t modern, Modani’s pieces work wonderful with traditional, feminine, and rustic pieces. I reimagined my living and dining spaces from my first apartment because that was the room I spent most of my time; from homework, to meetings, to movie, game and dinner nights. If I could I would move into my first apartment all over again…if it looked like this.
1. When you have your first apartment, you look forward to entertaining and having friends over, so it’s important to invest in quality furniture pieces that will stand the years, and moving. Mix traditional chairs with a large modern dining table large enough for entertaining. A bar cart is a nice addition for entertaining, but an absolute must-have is a complete dinnerware set, that matches and isn’t plastic. 2. I love rustic and vintage pieces, and the apartment should have a good mix of character. And when on a budget, invest in versatile pieces that could be used in other rooms or other uses, like a dresser as a dining room buffet or a modern decorative piece as a fruit bowl. 3. Large and comfortable seating is a necessity in any home, so it’s important to invest in a great sofa. Basel Sectional Sofa, Modani
4. Pillows are an inexpensive and excellent way to show your personal style, that can also be easily changed. Moha Pillow, Modani|Tasseled Bariloque Pillow, Anthropologie
Now I ask you, if you could go back, how would you reimagine your first apartment?
