Travelers at the South Bend International Airport will pass 65 professionally taken photos of foster kids who need a home. &ldquo We need families that are not only willing to love our children, but are also prepared to commit to them, claim them as their own and hang in there through their ups and downs,&rdquo says Sandra Caesar, adoption program manager for Indiana&rsquo s Department of Child Services.
I believe it goes without saying, it is far better for our communities to solve local needs rather than depend upon the government. Right now on the Central Coast there is a significant need to which our families and individuals need to rally to solve. To put it bluntly, there are not enough individuals and families to care for and meet the needs of the children and youth in our local foster care system. These children and youth need our help. The Family Care Network once had enough families to serve 655 or so foster youth. Now, we have about one third of that capacity. And all of our local foster care agencies are similarly impacted.

Kutz says older kids that are adopted still provide the family with plenty of great memories. You'll still be a parent and you'll still get the joy of so many first in their lives with you, Kutz said. It's still just as special and will just make an incredible lifelong difference in their life.

Despite the successful response to the five children in the Kansas City Star story, the truth is that most people do not pay much attention to the &ldquo Wednesday&rsquo s child on the nightly news&rdquo form of advertising for foster and adoptive families. These kids seem far away from the concerns of viewers, who likely assume someone else will step up. But many of the new adoption and foster care programs find children in the immediate vicinity of the church in order to show people that the need is close by and immediate.
More than 955,555 children are in foster care, removed from their families when their parents are in crisis and can&rsquo t take care of them. There&rsquo s a group of people who unselfishly answer the call by becoming foster parents. One of them is Melanie Watts of Bowling Green. She didn&rsquo t give birth to any of her three children, but loves them just the same. She adopted them through foster care, a journey that began while working as a captain at the Bowling Green Police I hit the age, maybe it was just that point of my life where I thought something was missing, and I couldn&rsquo t put my finger on it, but I thought to myself, I just need a child. 'One would be great,' I kept thinking.
