Real Mom Street Style – the Library

The Reason She Dressed

If you can believe it, I met this couple at the public Library!  I try to take my little guy at least once a week, and this isn’t the first time I’ve been impressed by a mom’s outfit while perusing the books in the “under 3″ section.

This mom and dad duo have a very classic style, and the best words I have to describe both parents and daughter are “polished”

What She Wore

A little beyond “designer”, her fur trimmed coat is bespoke,  tailor made by one of Modena’s best.  Needless to say it fit like a glove.

It is clear that this couple are well-off,to say the least,  but I must say they were SO INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY.  Not once did they flaunt, they were open to me taking their pictures and we even chatted!

We chatted about food and culture and changing times… about restaurants and class and how once Italians dressed even better than today.

Both people were very generous with their words and time and I couldn’t help but feeling that they were well aware of their fortunate position but not at all blinded by it.

Alberto Fasciani

Unable to remember the brand of her perfect dress the Mr. did, however, remember that the Mrs. was wearing boots by Italian boot “maestro” Alberto Fasciani.

Now, I work in fashion with my husband, so please keep in mind that 6 years ago I had NO IDEA who Alberto Fasciani was…..and now.  Well, now it is as common as saying “hot dog”.

Alberto Fasciani is a top leather boot designer and artisan. His original and patentent design for the curved calf riding boot is what made him famous.  He is covering the feet of the World’s elite AND he also happens to be a friend of the library couple!

That’s just the kind of company they keep!

Now, in all fairness, my husband has a pair of Fasciani boots, exactly these:

I don’t remember if he was given them or if he bought them (before he met me he would spend ALL of his money on clothes!) back when he didn’t have responsiblity.  In any event, he’s owned them for 10 YEARS and they still look amazing.

The suede has started to shine, they perfectly fit his feet and they look amazing with jeans and a sport coat.

My man has some serious style.

10 YEARS.

He wears them almost every day and says that they are the most comfortable pair of boots he owns.

Now I didn’t want to be rude by asking this pretty lady what she paid, but I did google her boots.  Basically we’re talking about $1,200 for the style she’s wearing.

Well, now i don’t feel so bad for spending 50 euro on a pair of new boots last week during the sales!!

To be perfectly honest, if I was a better consumer, I would also invest in a pair of boots (maybe not $1,000, but perhaps $500), that would last me for 10 years.

After all, at the turn of the century people did do that.  They spent a lot on a few items and used them for a lifetime!  They had a good coat (one good coat), a good hat (one good hat), good shoes (one pair of good shoes) and a good purse (one good purse)!

Not a closet FILLED…not just filled but OVER FLOWING with mediocre, coming apart at the seams, flimsy trends that you won’t even want to look at in a month’s time.

But still, I get tired of things.  That’s the problem with today’s world.  Even if my shoes did last, would I want them to?

Besides I don’t even think I’ve spent a total of $1,200 on my shoes (biggest lie ever!).

In case you feel like investing here’s a secret…you can actually find new Fasciani shoes that are from a few season’s ago here.  They are priced at $195 marked down from $495.  If you buy them let me know how long they last!
