The Reason She Dressed
I met this mom last week at the playground and just HAD to share her awesome look. Kimonos are totally trending for this Spring and Summer and this mom wore the trend well!
This is one of my favorite playgrounds in Modena, but I have to admit, I usually go there in the morning when all the other stay at home moms and kids are there. We have our own little social circle, and since most of the kids are little, they get a free for all to go anywhere they want without being run over by big kids.
On this particular day we were there in the afternoon, so I got to see the “after work/school” crowd. The moms that pick up their kids from school around 4 and then head over to the park to let them burn some energy before taking them home. Her name is Valentina and she works in real estate but admits to loving fashion and following the trends! She puts in a little extra effort with manicured nails and sweet details that I totally appreciate.
What She Wore
Kimonos are huge this season, and that makes me happy since two years ago I bought one on sale at Forever 21 for under 25 bucks that I LOVE. I have to admit though, I’ve had a hard time styling it so I’ve been searching for inspiration.
She wore this beautiful Pull and Bear delicate floral printed kimono with ripped and rolled, boyfriend jeans bought at Zara. Her beautiful ballet flats are by the Italian designer brand Anna Baiguera, who specialize in gorgeous embellished flats, sandal and moccasins.

Her jewelery was a gift from her husband and is so delicate and understated that it beautifully compliments her over all look. What I really like is how she went right from work to the playground and didn’t need to change. This summer outfit is polished enough for daywear but also relaxed enough that she was able to chase after her kid.
One of the pillars of my personal fashion philosophy is to invest in accessories and skimp on clothes. I guess I started doing this a few years back when I started working for my husband’s exotic leather belt brand. I just became aware that a fantastic pair of shoes or belt could make any 5 euro t-shirt and discount jeans look incredible! Now, that’s not to say that I no longer buy cheaper shoes and accessories…because I do! Which is probably why I have too much stuff, but let’s just say that I get way more use out of the few high quality things I have. I really like how this mom paired “fast fashion” brands like Pull and Bear and Zara with designer shoes.
Kimono Time
If you’re in the market for a nice summer kimono but you don’t want to go designer there are some great options out there for less than $40! The important thing to look for is that they are MACHINE WASHABLE! Who is the mom who has time and money to spend on dry cleaning!? Polyester forever!!
