Gillian is my Canadian friend who also married an Italian and had a baby 8 months after me! I’m so happy to have her in Italy, even though we only see each other a few times a year she is one of the most important people in my life. You may remember her from my New Year’s post or even the Rome Bio Park from a few days ago!
This time around we had 4 full days together (plus two travel days, which don’t really count) so we hung out in Pignetto (her area, I’ve written about it here), ate at Necchi’s, went to the BioPark (I’ve written about it here), went on a 5 hour walk through Rome and went to the Children’s museum!
Gillian has always had fantastic taste, it’s her job! She’s a designer for her husband’s creative studio and she has an amazing eye for detail, simplicity and style. Her coolness is effortless and she manages to always look fantastic even though her closet is SMALL (and I mean small, their entire apartment in Rome is the size of a North American bedroom!).
Actually, it may be for this fact that she makes really good decisions whenever she buys something. If she adds something to her closet it must be something she’ll wear numerous times and that works well with everything else she owns.
She has a few key pieces that just work no matter how she wears them and she always manages to look very put together.
Oh and how cute is it that her Kenneth Cole trench MATCHES her daughter’s trench!
As a side note, if you plan on visiting Italy in March / April, a lightweight hooded trench like this is a great idea to bring along. You won’t need an umbrella (hard to hold anyway if you are pushing a stroller) and trenches are totally “Euro Cool”!
Her Baby Bag
Her “baby bag” is the rubber and rope version of Italian brand Fullspot’s “O Bag” available here for $85. Even though this isn’t an actual stroller baby bag, she just detached the rope handles and reattached them to her stroller as a perfect carry-all tote that is waterproof, stain-proof, risilient and not “mommyish”!
Just one example of her creativity…I’ll get more into her creativity in another post because I want you to see what she made for her daughter’s first birthday party!
Style
Style isn’t just about clothing but about confidence. I love that Gillian hasn’t dyed her cute patch of grey that peaks out through her bangs. I’m a grey lover and think that you can work a bit of grey into your hairstyle and make it really beautiful, elegant and still young and sexy.
Case. In. Point.
I’ll try to share the amazing walk we took together through Rome tomorrow, even though the skies were grey we still managed to have a full day of sightseeing and chatting.
