Real Mom Street Style in Reggio Emilia

Those that have heard of the Reggio Approach and Reggio Children have probably heard of Reggio Emilia! A small city with 170,000 inhabitants, it is the birthplace of one of the most revolutionary educational movements on the planet! In the Fall, I will be bringing you lots of info on the Reggio Approach, which I've been slowly integrating into my daily life with my three year old.

Every few months the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre has open public "atelier" workshops for kids, that allow the public to experience their innovative approach first hand. Whenever we can make it we try to go, because they are interactive and fun for the whole family. Not to mention totally cool! On one of these occasions last Spring, we headed to Reggio for the Ray of Light Workshop and also enjoyed a nice stroll through Reggio Emilia.

While grabbing a gelato I noticed this very pretty mom with her son. This woman does not leave the house in jogging pants! Lipstick, nail polish, perfectly waved hair, and an outfit that highlighted what great shape she was in without being vulgar.

Provincial

In Italy it is almost an insult to call someone "provinciale" - meaning "provincial". To call someone "provincial" is to imply that their dressing, opinions and way of life is limited to their small world, having never lived in a big city. I on the other hand think that as far as Italian "suburbs" and "suburbanites" go, they are generally well-cultured people with a desire to be very presentable, clean and modern.

This mom is the perfect example of what I mean. Small town living, but with big city style. Proof that you don't need to be in Milan to dress like a fashion blogger!
