Ready, set…Readathon!

By Whatsheread

Dewey's 24-hour Readathon

Welcome one and all to my little Read-a-thon corner!

Over the next twenty-four hours, I will be participating once again in Dewey’s 24-hour Read-a-thon, only my very favorite book blogger event of the entire year. I usually do not post many updates throughout the course of the event because I tend to focus on the reading aspect of it rather than the socializing aspect of it. However, any updates I do have to make will be added on to this post so scroll on down to see how I am doing!

  • HOUR the FIRST – 7 AM CDT – Up and at’em! Epic bedhead this morning as I stumble out of bed, let the dogs out, and make that all-important pot of coffee.

Opening Meme

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Janesville, WI, about 70 miles north of the Illinois border
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? I am a sucker for French onion dip and chips. I have been anticipating that since I went to the grocery store.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am one of the older bloggers, meaning I’ve been around for a long time. I have a quirky sense of humor, a mouth like a sailor, strong opinions, and an ability of read and love a weird and eclectic variety of books and topics. I read what I like and I like what I read. I have two kids who keep me busier than I thought was possible, but I wouldn’t change that for the world.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I actually have snacks planned in advance, as well as a suggestion of books. Normally, I wing it and then bemoan the fact I have nothing good to eat or get tired with what I have to read.

  • HOUR the SECOND – 8 AM CDT – I type this at 8:10 AM with one cup of coffee done, about 70 pages read in roughly 45 minutes. In that 45 minutes, my backyard had a turkey strut across it and some deer scampering about playing (the dog was not amused). It is sunny outside, and I just know it is going to be a gorgeous day. Now, time for a second cup of coffee and more reading…
  • HOUR the THIRD – 9 AM CDT – Okay, more like closer to Hour the Fourth, but whatever. I finished a second cup of coffee and have popped in the cinnamon rolls for breakfast. After some distracted reading, I finished my first book – If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo. A must-read if ever there was one.
  • HOUR the FOURTH – 10 AM CDT – It’s 10:30 AM, and I just finished the second book. I am so ashamed that it took me so long to read Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s  We Should All Be Feminists. If I were the type to highlight passages, I would have highlighted the entire book. So powerful. So important a message. Now on to some suspense…and maybe another cinnamon roll.
