Reading Nook Curtains

By Vixenmade @vixenMade

Hi friends!   Yes, I know, there was no post yesterday.  I took a day for myself.  Well.  As much as 'for myself' it can be as a stay at home mom.  But I decided to catch up on things since the weekend went by too quickly. Anyways, let me show you what I've been working on.
I've been meaning to add curtains to my daughter's little 'reading nook' for awhile now. Now that her room is a little more defined with it's colors (which came from her bedding).  I've been trying to finish off her room with new artwork and decor. Here is her 'nook' before.

Kind of boring.  It tends to be a catch all since it needs a little more definition and organization.  Which is soon to come..

A few months back, the local fabric store was clearing out curtains.  I nabbed some bright yellow ones for 8 dollars each.  Which is a steal considering the fabric is nice and thick and heavy.
I also had an old curtain rod that used to hang in our living room.

We took the brackets and bent the end to hang behind the wall above her nook.

Then hung the curtains.

Once they were hung, I was able to mark out where I wanted them to end (since I didn't want them dragging on the floor).

After cutting them down, I hemmed the bottom 1/4 of inch.  Reading Nook Curtains
Then folded and pressed another hem about 3 inches wide and sewed.

Perfect.

Well, this was not good enough for my little princess.  "Where are the ruffles?"  She asked.

Enough said.  I don't have a problem adding ruffles!
She picked out the color of ruffles she wanted (pink polkadot--that match her vanity bench and the underside of her bedding).
So back to the sewing machine I went.
After laying the curtains out, I figured that two ruffled strips along the bottom would work great (and I would have just enough).

I cut my strips 5 inches wide and ripped the length of the fabric.

Once I had about 10-12 strips, I went to work.

First, I serged the edges.  Gah... time consuming..

The ruffled them.

I pinned them onto my curtains and sewed along the centers of the ruffles.

And.. hung them up again. BTW, the lighting in my daughter's room kinda sucks.  So the colors are a little off.  The pink polkadot fabric  looks more like the above ^ pictures.  The bedroom pics make them look a little orange-y.  Ew.  Oh well.  You get the idea.

They passed, I guess.  She gave me a big beautiful smile and said, "I like it."

Yeesh.  The inside of her nook needs a little help still.  Coming soon!
