I was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday so my mom took me out for some lunch at a little cafe in the village next to ours.
It's a vintage cafe with mix match furniture and cool teapots and lovely food.
We used to go frequently but hasn't been in a while... And won't be going back for a while. The service was atrocious.
The guy that owns it, is around 22 and needs a kick up the backside.
Firstly; there was a lady with a little boy about two, and in the cafe they have cool patterned cups hanging down the window. The little boy was playing with them and the mom was saying to him "don't touch them you might break them" . Then the guy come over and said "he shouldn't be touching them, do you want me to get him a high chair because he clearly isn't listening to you, is he?" That poor women was humiliated in front of everyone in the café. My mom was trying help her and was like "that man is so rude" the lady was really upset so she left money on the table and left. The guy then started talking about how "she wasn't responsible" and "she shouldn't be allowing her child to do that" to the other members of staff.
We were horrified about the way the he handled the situation.
So we carried on with our lunch... And his service got worse! My mom ordered a cappuccino and I ordered a cake (chocolate brownie!). My mum's cappuccino came and no joke it was in this tumbler thing, it had no handle, it looked like a toothbrush holder! When he came back with my cake, my mom said "this cup has no handle" the guys says "and?", my mom says "it's too hot to pick up..", he says "you'll be fine" and walks away, I mean that is pure and utter rudeness, he took into no consideration my mums concern about the heat of the cup or anything. It wasn't like they didn't have cups with handles they had loads of them. Eventually my mom was able to drink it once it had cooled down a little and she put a napkin round it.
While we were finishing up there was a lady paying at the till with her credit card. They had one of those portable chip and pin machines, well anyway she must have typed her pin wrong and so she took the card out of the machine, the guy says "if you take the card out of course it's not going to work if you take your card out" the lady replies with "the machine told me to take it out" she then stormed out the cafe and her husband paid but he was furious.
Next it was our turn to pay! So we went up the guy took my mums cards and dido his that and the next thing then says "so what did you think off the cup?" My mom replies " I didn't like it, it looks like a toothbrush holder and it was too hot to pick up" well you should of seen his face drop! He could believe that we didn't like his cups... He then proceeded to say that in the city coffee was served in those kinds of cups all the time. Well I don't know what city he has been in because we have never encountered coffee in a toothbrush holder before! By this time I was in hysterics it had become that bad that I was crying with laughter. Clearly trying to get the better if my mom he said "in some cafes they serve coffee in glass cups, I don't like glass cups because you can see the coffee" my mom came back with " I'd rather a glass cup with a handle that a toothbrush holder" and then we left and that was the end of that!
They way he treated customers was appalling to the point it was offending people. I don't know how people can be so obnoxious and rude.
