In a few days time, we will be turning our calendars to 2013. This means we will be able to count down the months till the release of Dead Ever After with ONE hand. And time will start to fly even faster…
While we could choose to be sad that the last Sookie book is fast approaching us, we have decided to “Celebrate” instead. This time we are “Raising the Dead” on the 7th novel of Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse series; All Together Dead.
We here at Eric and Sookie Lovers could not wait to reflect on this particular book, as it is one of our favorites of the series. Between the action, the dialog , the Eric and Sookie moments… how could it not be 
Here is how we raised our (virtual) glass and reflected on this 7th book of the series.
How did reading it make you feel?
B: I ran the emotional gauntlet this book when I first read this book between awe, dread, happiness, and shock. And when a book can bring all of these types of emotions out of me… it’s a keeper.
Erika: I enjoyed it very much overall. I think this book ranks at #2 out of my favorites of the entire series.
Nymerias: This is one of my favorite books! I felt that pull of rooting for Eric and Sookie all over again like I did in DTTW. I loved when she saved Eric and Pam without a thought of Bill.
Could you put it down?
Erika: Could I put it down? No, especially during the bombing in Rhodes. This book had the most action out of any of the rest of the series and I loved it. I also loved Eric and Sookie’s forming of the blood bond and love how both of them reacted to its’ effects afterwards.
B: I tried to take breaks and savor this one. There was just so much going on in the story that I didn’t want to miss a thing. So, of course I finished it in one night!
Nymerias: Could I put it down? No every book I really love I stay up reading until it is finished and than I go back and read it again.
What moment made you laugh?
Erika: This moment made me LOL:
“You’ll give it to me and leave,” Eric said. He was pushing his vampire influence at my head with all his might.
“Won’t work, never did,” I muttered.
“You are a stubborn woman,” he said.
“I’m not,” I said, on the verge of tears at being first accused of nobility, then stubbornness. “I just don’t want to move it! That’s safest!”
“Some might think you suicidal.”
“Well, ‘some’ can stick it up their ass.”
Nymerias: I will second Erika on the moment that made me laugh!
B: For me, I laughed every time Barry ran when confronted by an Eric and Sookie moment. Like when Eric interupted Sookie and Barry dancing, Barry turned tail. And when Eric walked up to Barry and Sookie again as they were “arguing” on how they ended up handling the discovery of the bodies at the archery place. Barry’s voice went high-pitched AND then he made his way to where ever Sookie and Eric were not.
Also… Father Eric, anyone? 
I rest my case.
What moment made you cry?
Erika: Other than crying out for Eric and Pam to wake up when Sookie tried rousing them from their daytime sleep during the bombings…I didn’t cry at all.
B: I actually cried during the rescue efforts after the hotel bombing. For me, it brought back some of the images of 9/11 to the forefront of my mind. It also made Sookie (and Barry) very vulnerable as they exposed their talents to the human rescue workers. I also was crying on HOW the blood bond came about. Yes, I am happy Eric was able to dance the political tight rope to keep her safe and they are connected. But the fact that Andre forced their hands because HE wanted to keep Sookie on a shorter leash and was going to fang rape her against her will. I’m still sad about that.
Favorite Moment/Line from the book:
Nyemerias:
“Ha,” I said. “Oh, ha-ha. Yeah, ’cause they love me. You see how many vampires are up here?
Zero, right?”
“One,” said Eric, stepping out of the stairwell. “We’re bound a bit too tightly to suit me, Sookie.”
He was visibly tense; I couldn’t remember ever seeing Eric so notably anxious. “I’m here to die
right along with you, it seems.”
Some of my other favorite moments are when Eric saved Sookie from Andre and when he went to help her with the soda can bomb.
Erika:
One of my favorite moments from the book is:
“Eric decided action would speak louder than words. Suddenly, he was right in front of me. He
put a finger under my chin and lifted my face to his. His eyes, which looked simply dark in the irregular light, latched on to mine with an intensity that was both exciting and painful. Vampires; mixed feelings.
One and the same.
Not exactly to my astonishment, he kissed me. When someone has had approximately a thousand years to practice kissing, he can become very good at it, and I would be lying if I said I was
immune to such oscillatory talent. My temperature zoomed up about ten degrees. It was everything I could do to keep from stepping into him, wrapping my arms around him, and stropping myself against him. For a dead guy, he had the liveliest chemistry—and apparently all my hormones were wide awake
after my night with Quinn. Thinking of Quinn was like a dash of cold water.”
And… the dance 
B: I am making it 3 for 3 and going with the dance as one of my favorite moments and Eric “waiting” out the soda bomb with Sook. I am also going with Sookie rushing to find Eric and Pam to save them from the bomb. I also loved at the beginning of the book when Sookie and Pam “girl chatted” about Eric in the parking lot of Merlottes.
