Raising "God Girls" with the Help of "For Girls Like You" Magazine!

By Parentingauthor @ParentingAuthor
If you’re the mother of a daughter, you’ve probably experienced the struggle to find age-appropriate entertainment for her. Girls often get the message that they need to look sexier, use coarse language, or pick on the less popular to fit in. Wynter Pitts faced these issues when she became the mother of four daughters. She became “disappointed with the direction that many of the mainstream media outlets for young girls” were taking, and so she decided to start her own Christian magazine for tween girls.
For Girls Like You is a quarterly publication that contains inspirational articles and interviews, crafts, puzzles, fill-in pages, and much more to encourage girls “to live and shine for Christ,” as Pitts explains. The issues I read had interviews with celebrities (such as Candace Cameron Bure, who played D.J. Tanner on Full House) and girls who do fun things (such as play the ukulele or host a cooking show). There were also haircare tips, fill-in-the-blank pages (“If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?”), crafts (scented coasters, duct tape belts), and articles on life in different countries. And, of course, there was Biblical wisdom about being honest, loving yourself, and handling peer pressure.
