Quick Snack: Cottage Cheese & Strawberries

By Lindsayleighbentley @lindsayLbentley

So this snack may have been a bit more appealing before the entire country decided to freeze over, but I’m posting it anyway.photo 1-5

I love cottage cheese and often make my own.  However, the kind I had on hand was this one:

Organic, cultured, yum.

Ok, if you aren’t used to cultured foods, you need to prepare yourself a bit.  This cottage cheese is zingy!

As in, sour.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but getting those good cultures in our bodies is worth it, right?

So, I off-set the sourness with the sweetness of strawberries.

They were finally under $6/carton at the store so I bought some, much to my son’s delight.  He’s been asking for them all winter.

Cottage cheese is very high in protein, and ones that are naturally cultured like this one have a ton of good probiotics.  I only wish it were made with whole rather than low-fat milk.  Oh well.

Strawberries are a great antioxidant, which eliminate free-radicals in the body, as well as being a great source of vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, iron, fiber, and folate to name a few.

Babies under age 1 shouldn’t have fresh (unheated) strawberries, so poor Miles only got plain cottage cheese.

Enjoy!

live well. be well.
