Sometimes you have to put your hat in the ring and take a chance.
Sometimes you have to put fear aside and do something different.
If you want to make a positive change, you have to make changes. Do something different. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you've always gotten. Henry Ford said this. He made a good point.
This last week, I did something crazy. There were a couple of catalysts for it, but I, yes I, applied for a part time job. It sounds probably a little silly to say that I feel rather excited about it, but its more an excitement about doing something I have been thinking about for awhile, but felt unable to do so. I suppose 'right timing' has a lot to do with what doors open or close before and or behind us. Sometimes our inability to do something is more about wrong timing, than that opportunity or that thing not being right for us.
I decided I wanted to put my hat into the ring. This helped me pull together my resume. Something I have struggled with for a long time, but then all of a sudden, I did it!
I rewrote my resume, and put together a cover letter, and uploaded my resume. It was a very strange feeling uploading my resume to a website. I feel very modern and young being able to upload my resume up onto a website. I know this is how we have been doing things in the world we live in for some time now, but I have been a full time mum for the last 16 years and I haven't applied for a position online before. Last time I applied for a job, I physically took my application into the place I was applying for, or, I sent it via snail mail....because that is how we rolled back then.
I may not get this position, but I did get an interview. Twenty four hours after I put my hat in the ring, I found out I got an interview. I can't tell you how excited I am.
There are so many positives for this position. It will be accommodating. I can work evenings and weekends, and still homeschool.
So this week I am in prep mode. Yesterday, I pulled my wardrobe apart, and literally reminded myself why I dislike my wardrobe. I pulled out every piece I decided I would never again wear, and today I went shopping for some new threads! It was a great day. I bought a couple of shirts that I like, and are interview worthy.
One question? Why has every shop at Kawana stocked their stores with frilly sleeved shirts. I am not a person who likes to wear frills. I am a proud, but a very simple girl, who doesn't like frills.
I found a shirt I like without frills, but now as I write this, I wonder if the interviewer will look at me and question why I am not wearing a shirt with frilly sleeves. Maybe I won't appear 'trendy' enough in my shirt without frills, but as Keala Settle sings in The Greatest Showman, 'This is Me'. A non frilly, flat shoed woman with four kids who after 16 years just wrote her first resume, and GOT an INTERVIEW.
Pretty exciting really. I'll let you know if I get it. A few days to go and I might have a part time job.
