Pumpkin spice is a blend of spices used in American in many Pumpkin based recipes like Pumpkin pie, pumpkin cakes and muffins and now you can get Pumpkin Spiced Coffees at Starbucks! You can use it sweet, savoury dishes and even hot drinks.
Pumpkin spice is generally a blend of powdered cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and sometimes allspice. It can also be used as a seasoning in general cooking. There are many different recipes out there on how to make the spice blend, but more often than not Cinnamon is the base.
The combination of these spices are so fragrant and feel rather festive, with Halloween and festive holidays coming up it can be used in so many different recipes.
I decided to freshly ground the cloves and nutmeg which made this spice feel extra fresh - gave my kitchen a lovely wintery aroma.
My version for recipe made about 50g worth of spice mix.
Make sure you used either fresh ground or good quality spices as makes the flavour even richer.
I used the spices in my upcoming Pumpkin Pie recipe, Pumpkin Burfi ( Fudge) and even some pumpkin muffins - however I plan to add the Spice Mix to some of my Christmas bakes too.
IF you like warm milky drinks and love the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte than try making it at home. Make a coffee latte starting with an espresso, then steam up some milk and add 1/2 tsp of the spice mix to the milk and stir well, pour into the coffee and topped with whipped cream and sprinkle on some additional spice mix over the top.
UK is starting to get very Americanized with the Starbucks leading the path - and Halloween getting bigger each year. We are not totally there as I've not yet seen a pumpkin pie at every restaurant.
