Public's Worried About Trade War - Expects Recession Soon
Trump has bragged about winning the trade war, and also about how good the economy is doing. In fact, the economy remaining at least as good as it currently is could be Trump's only hope to be re-elected. But the public is not buying Trump's reassurances.
About 60% of the public is concerned about Trump's trade war with China (and a majority of every demographic group but Republicans) agrees with that concern. Also, an equal 60% of the population thinks there will be a recession soon (in the next year).
Those aren't good numbers for Trump, and it's likely why his job approval has dropped out of the forties (now only 38%).
These charts are from the latest Washington Post / ABC News Poll -- done between September 2nd and 5th of a national sample of 1,003 adults, with a margin of error of 3.5 points.
