Public House – Bringing South American Food & Drinks to the East End of Town

By Foodie Cravings @foodiecravings

Last month, burger boy and I were invited to the launch of Public House Kitchen & Bar, The Publican Group’s newest venue. I was personally excited as I’ve been watching the St George Tce end of the Perth CBD buzz with new venues and small bars as the Adelaide Tce end waited patiently for Public House to launch. It’s about time the east end of town got some boozy foodie love!

When I heard Head Chef Sean Trautvetter was inspired by the love for South American food (specifically from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Columbia) and was all about showcasing WA produce, I knew we had a keeper as I LOVE American food. Slow cooked pulled pork is my signature dish!

As with all venues owned by The Publican Group I always feel welcome. Public House is the type of venue that I feel comfortable going straight from my previous corporate role without feeling the need to go home to glam up for a couple of casual drinks. Perhaps it’s because the staff aren’t overly dressed up or maybe it’s the open layout / decor of the venue…

At the launch party, I enjoyed a few too many of these cocktails and burger boy found himself some Colombian beer…

In search of some better lighting to take a pic of my cocktail, I found this à la broche sign which means to be cooked on a skewer (or spit)…

A great find that sign was, as it led me to this guy who was serving 12 hour smoked lamb shoulder…

I happily soaked up my cocktails with these lamb burgers which were served in a sweet brioche with crispy chickpeas and green onion as optional condiments…

burger boy got right into these coffee and honey lamb ribs garnished with mint & lime…

We also tried empanadas and fried chicken…

So after much drinking & eating at Public House’s official launch party I was excited to also win a $400 food and beverage voucher. As much as I loved the South American fare and cocktails we were drinking all night, I didn’t think burger boy and I could eat and drink up $400 alone so I’m throwing him a birthday party! Follow me on Instagram, facebook or twitter Jan 3rd for live Public House foodie updates.

I think the festive season must be getting me in the spirit of organising as burger boy’s birthday party is my third event in 6 weeks! I organised Crust WA’s christmas party for 100 people at $25 per head (yep it was a very a tough foodie challenge – you can read all about it here) and pre Christmas high tea at Rochelle Adonis with 10 of my girlfriends earlier this month (post coming soon).

Public House Bar & Kitchen is a great place to go after work for casual drinks or group lunches. It’s about time the east end of town got some love! Thinking we may head to hulu bula bar for cocktails after burger boy’s party at Public House
