As you may know, the courts recently struck down Canada’s laws on prostitution. The courts have given the government a year to come up with new laws. As a result, the government is consulting the public on the direction they should go. You can find the questions here. I think it is important for all Canadians to give their input. I would especially hope that Christians would speak to this issue.
I have no intention of telling people how to respond. I will say that I personally favour the Nordic model. The Nordic model focuses on prosecuting the johns rather than the prostitutes. The grim reality is that many prostitutes are forced into the sex trade and are therefore the victims and not the criminals. By prosecuting the purchasers of sex, the demand will go down and thus reduce the sex trade. This has been down in Sweden with success.
