An amendment to the Provincial Councils ElectionsAct, No. 02 of 1988 has been proposed by way of a private bill in parliament. The bill has been presented as a private member’s bill by MP MA Sumanthiran.
The proposed bill aims to repeal the Provincial Council Election Amendment Act No. 17 of 2017 and change the voting system for the provincial council elections. The bill has proposed to restore the old voting system that existed prior to the amendment in 2017.
