Boralesgamuwa Police said that a prison official and his wife were attacked using sharp weapons by two motorcyclists near the Borupana bridge.
The wife of the prison official, Nirosha Chathurani (34), a resident of Boralesgamuwa, succumbed to the injuries. The prison official, who also sustained injuries, was hospitalised.
The residents in the area had caught the pillion rider, when the two motorcyclists were trying to flee after the incident. The suspect, who was handed over to the Police, has been hospitalised. The Police, when questioning the suspect, has found that the other main suspect was a resident of Moragahahena.
The reason for the attack has not been revealed yet. The Police are conducting further investigations.
