Preparing Skin for a Successful Waxing Service

By Khadija Beauty @khadijabeauty3

Two important steps in a waxing experience are the pre- and post-wax skincare routines. An important part of the pre-waxing routine is properly preparing skin for a successful waxing service. Keep in mind to always educate your clients and stay educated yourself so that you’re both ready for every appointment.

If you are a salon owner, communicate the step-by-step process that hopefully involves pre-depilatory oil. Additionally, prepare your salon with proper products and educate wax artists so that your clients can receive the best care. Of these products, you should have pre-depilatory oil on hand. Read more about its benefits below.

Pain Management

Can pre-depilatory oil improve a client’s waxing experience? The answer is yes! A pre- and post-depilatory oil will create a barrier between the skin and hair. This is a key step in preparing skin for a successful waxing service. By creating an oil barrier, the wax should lift off effortlessly, removing only the hair and reducing pain for the client.

Press lightly on the skin around the wax to create an anchor for removing the wax. Your clients will thank you for using this method rather than swiping the wax quickly without an anchor. Apply these tips, literally and figuratively, and reduce the amount of redness and pain for the person sitting in your chair. This is a sure way to ensure repeat business for your waxing salon.

Results

Before the days of oil, a carcinogenic substance called talcum powder was used. Unfortunately, these powders can be dangerous to breathe in. Not only that, but they couldn’t provide the results that oil does. Oil acts as a magnet for the wax to grab the hair and not the skin. Without the use of oil, hair may be left behind after the wax. To save time and money and achieve the best results, consider using pre- and post-depilatory oil.

Another step to achieving the best results is exfoliating. Your clients should have clean, exfoliated skin before the wax is applied. If they do not exfoliate, the risk of getting an ingrown hair increases. Waxing without exfoliating can take skin with the wax rather than just the hair. If your client hasn’t already exfoliated, you may do so for them.

Experience

If a client has a poor waxing experience, it will feel like a chore to come in for your services. By using oil, you will create an atmosphere of luxury. Clients will enjoy coming in for a beauty treatment rather than dreading it as a chore to check off their list. This will add to the overall atmosphere of your salon. Beautiful and uncompromised skin after a wax will leave clients looking forward to their next appointment. By properly preparing skin for a waxing experience, you will provide your clients with a luxurious service they’ll keep wanting more of.
