Preparing For A Cross Country Move...HELP?!

By Earthseamama @earthseamama
So we are moving across the country in 44 days! I will be flying with Baby F (He will be 10 months old) and our 4 pound Chihuahua Gemma. My Fiance will be driving back. I will be on a plane for approximately 6 hours alone with Baby F & Gemma! I booked our tickets a few weeks ago and never put to much thought into it because this really is our only option, but today I started thinking about how hard this really is going to be!
Preparing For A Cross Country Move...HELP?!Since Gemma is only 4 pounds she will be flying in the cabin under the seat in front of me at my feet...I have traveled with Gemma on West Jet this way 3 times now. The last time was the worst, we had her spayed while we were in Nova Scotia because it was at least $300 cheaper than it would have been to have her done here in the city. On our return flight we had 3 or 4 stops because of bad weather and we had to switch planes and all kinds of crazy stuff...not to mention my little girl was in her carrier with stitches in her tiny belly :( It was a very stressful flight but I was able to reach down and slip my hand in her carrier and try to comfort her...although nothing worked.
This time I will have Baby F on my lap and him to comfort as well...I am not sure I will even be able to maneuver to reach down to pat my dog and tell her its going to be ok. Our flight is late at night so I am hoping Baby F will be tired and sleep for most of the flight & maybe even Gemma will sleep but I have no idea how either will react...its just to hard to predict what is going to happen once we board the plane.
Before you suggest that I have my dog drugged for the flight this is not an option, because of her weight I have been advised by several veterinarian's NOT to drug her because there is NO proper dose for her size AND it can cause her body temperature and heart rate to drop. I have tried homeopathic pet drops and they did not help her at all.
I am writing this post hoping that someone...anyone has some helpful advice for traveling with a small dog and also any advice for traveling with a baby. Please comment with ANY suggestions that you have! OR you can e-mail me at [email protected]
Thank You.  - Earth Sea Mama
