After months of rumors and reports, Sony has officially announced Project Morpheus, the virtual reality headset for PS4. If you’re familiar with VR headsets like Oculus Rift, it shouldn’t be too hard to understand how this device can change the way you play video games forever.
“Virtual reality is the next innovation from SCE that we believe will shape the future of games,” said Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Worldwide Studios president. “This new technology will deliver a sense of presence, where you as the player actually feel like you’re inside the game and your emotions feel that much more real.”
Packed with 5-inch LCD panel featuring 90-degree views, the Project Morpheus comes with 3D audio capable of recreating the “effect of 60 speakers around your head,” according to Official PlayStation Blog. The device display will also sport 1080p HD goodness and a camera that can track movements at 1000Hz; full 360 degrees rotation.

Despite how awesome it looks, the Project Morpheus is still an unfinished product and it will take some time before it actually becomes available for everyone. Sony promises that it will happen very soon.
