Powpow Share Primal Video for ‘Bipedal Monkey Children’ [Premiere]

“Bipedal Monkey Children” is a track that reflects on humanity’s inherent need to control and capitalize on the world we live in. Released by NYC based garage band Powpow, the song has a smooth and hazy tune, with the sentiment of the lyrics highlighted by singer Miles Robbins’s crisp melodic vocals. The accompanying video visualizes the theme of consumption in a compelling and strange way, featuring Robbins in a primal state, indulging in vices handed to him by masked figures. Powpow is relatively new to the scene, but after “Bipedal Monkey Children” we can’t wait to see where they go.

The song is about man’s ability to have his way with the natural world, and the resulting reckless and self-destructive overconsumption of resources. I thought the best way to show this was to get naked and have my friends and bandmates drown me in snack food. – Miles Robbins

The core of the video is irony. We are commenting on consumerism and wastefulness, and in doing so, we had to go to a supermarket and spend hundreds of dollars on food that we then wasted. There’s a message there, but it’s also just a beautifully disgusting thing to watch someone be bathed in milk and junk food. – Director, Nikolai Vanyo
