Postal Service Fashion: USPS to Debut Fashion Line

By Bridgetteraes @BridgetteRaes

USPS Fashion Postal service fashion?  I knew it wouldn’t be long before this industry went postal.

I’m sure you’ve heard the news that the United States Postal Service is starting a fashion line, which is one way that it intends to make itself profitable and relevant.  To save money, the cash-strapped service will also be suspending Saturday delivery starting in August.

The line will aptly be called “Rain Heat & Snow”  from their motto: “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stay these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

The Postal Service, who signed a deal with Cleveland-based company Wahconah Group, Inc., will start with men’s clothing first and will be releasing the line in 2014 with which will include jackets, headgear, footwear and clothing that allows integration of modern technology devices such as iPods, according to agency spokesman Roy Betts.  Women’s wear is to follow.

What I do like about this plan is that the Postal Service will be on the cutting edge of functional fashion.  Agency licensing manager Steven Mills said in a statement. “The main focus will be to produce Rain Heat & Snow apparel and accessories using technology to create ‘smart apparel’ — also known as wearable electronics.”

It’s almost too unbelievable to imagine the Postal Service and cutting edge in the same sentence, isn’t it?

While we have to wait for the women’s fashion to debut, it got me thinking…in a funny sort of way, about Postal Service looks  and outfits we all could embrace now.  Using some of the key uniform pieces available to postal workers currently and the USPS colore theme, check out some of these silly, yet Postal Service inspired looks I created:

Postal Service Fashion Look #1

Who knew the Postal Service was so trendy and fashionable with their little rain cape!  And not the envelope clutch.  Envelope clutch, get it, get it???

Postal Service Fashion Look #2

Playing off the red, white and blue theme of the Postal Service, I grabbed an official blue Postal Service button down, added a cross body bag, blue bomber inspired by what the Postal Service workers wear and finished the look with a lovely envelope necklace.

Postal Service Fashion Look #3

Nothing says Postal Service more than a pith helmet.  Does anyone other than a mail person even wear one anymore?  Well, I had to put an outfit together using this iconic special delivery hat.  Add to that, that cardigan, if you look closely the stitch is of the eagle in the USPS logo.  Yea, it’s official USPS fashion.

USPS Fashion Look #4

For a more casual look, I grabbed a pair of USPS pants that would be great lounging weekend pair, popped the outfit with red and added that fun envelope messenger bag.  Oh, and if you’re running out doors, don’t forget your USPS hat!
