Return of the Dragon

Bruce Lee’s all time classic remains evergreen in the realm of martial arts films. The film is an action comedy and traces the sojourn of Kung Fu master, Tang Lung, from Hong Kong to the city of Rome in his quest to put a mob out of business. The mob in question is a knife wielding gang controlled by a fragile restaurant owner. Featuring Chuck Norris in a classic fight with Bruce Lee, this film certainly packs punches in terms of stupendous fight scenes.

The Great Escape

The film is based on a true life accounts of a prisoner of war, Paul Brickhill, during the Second World War. The film depicts the audacious attempt of Brickhill and his co-prisoners to escape from German prisoner of war camps through a maze of crudely dug tunnels that lead from underneath the prison complex to the nearby forest. Steve McQueen’s performance is the hallmark of this epic action film as he plays captured pilot.

Kill Bill

Kill Bill is a two part story of vengeance by an assassin, known as the bride who was shot by her employer and abandoned as dead by him and other squad members. ‘The Bride’, Uma Thurmin, survives the ordeal and her murderous revenge is a foregone conclusion. Her employer is David Carradine and she sets out to exact a murderous vengeance on her colleagues. This film is full of martial arts fights and violent scenes and it is not for the tender hearted. The story line is enchantingly woven in a non-linear style that keeps you on the edge of your seat all through.

Defiance

This film by Edward Zwick is as polarizing as it is captivating. Many Europeans see the film as turning history on its head while Poles view it as anti-Polish. It is set in the Naliboki forest in Poland during the Second World War and tells the story of four Polish brothers who go against the norm, risking their lives to protect a thousand Jewish refugees during the war. Though based on a true event, there is much dramatics and film effects that diverge from the actual events that took place. Considering the penchant of Hollywood producers for the sensational, this is quite understandable. But Daniel Craig and TuviaBielski deliver solid performances that make the film worth viewing. Surely, this film testifies to the fortune and dignity of the Jewish refugees.
