Three Dog Night told us that "one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do," but Marina van Goor is out to prove them wrong with her new pop-up restaurant.
Eenmaal has the distinction of being the world's first one-person restaurant.
Where normally dining out is a social affair, at Eenmaal you're invited to enjoy your own company. "Come with one / Sit with one / Eat with one." The goal is to make dining alone more attractive and socially acceptable. Literal and figurative food for thought!
A fixed-price vegetarian menu consisting of four courses.
Van Goor's idea was realized with funding from the Doen Foundation and branding by Vandejong.
The decor is as simple and minimalist as the Eenmaal logo. The restaurant consists of 10 black box tables large enough to seat just one person in a white egg-shaped chair. In fact, everything at Eenmaal adheres to the black and white theme. Tables are spread out far enough that any desire to interact with your fellow diners is curbed.
But the lone-diner set-up isn't the only reason the name Eenmaal (meaning "one meal" or "one time" in Dutch) is perfect for this venture. The restaurant is only open once: from 28-29 June (not including the June 27 exclusive opening for the press). For 48 hours, Eenmaal will occupy an empty shop space at Bos en Lommerweg 361.
For more information, check out Eenmaal's Facebook page or email [email protected] to reserve a table. But make reservations soon because space is limited.
On the plus side, there's no need to coordinate with a date!
