Polar Fever: Soothing Plastic

Vasia Bratchuk (vocals, keyboards, drums) and Robert Szulc (guitars, bass, drums) recorded Soothing Plastic, the debut album of their art rock band Polar Fever, from the comfort of their homes, sending the tracks back and forth. They switch from orchestral progressive power pop to Radiohead-esque soundscapes, inserting shards of metal and college rock. The record is the culmination of a chance meeting at a Muse concert gig in Nijmegen, The Netherlands in 2011. They have been in touch since then, trying different bands and styles before deciding to give it go as a duo.

Being on a shoestring budget obviously limited their resources to get the sound exactly right, but there is plenty of good stuff to discover in the grandiose Mousetrap and the superb power ballad Snow Queen. Give them a chance in a professional studio with first-grade acoustics and Soothing Plastic can be remade and send out to the world in 5.1 surround glory. They should consider launching a crowdfunding campaign to get Steven Wilson to do the honours.
