PoArtMo 2020: The Story Behind My Brook Photo

Posted on the 15 June 2020 by Cendrinemedia @cendrinemedia

My love story with long-exposure photography started in 2016, when I visited Vancouver Island.

My Nikon D600 and a flimsy tripod were all I had at the time. We were near Little Niagara Falls, located in Goldstream Provincial Park.

When I saw the brook, I just wanted to sit and watch. And then photograph it.

The light was not very good, so I selected a shutter speed (0.5 second) that was slow enough to give me the best results. When I had released the shutter, I looked at the camera's screen in awe.

Once home, I chose to only edit the image minimally.

Yes, there is a branch in the middle of the frame. And yes, it is not my best photo. But it is one of my first long-exposure shots, and the water flow looks exactly like I wanted.

It's what photography is all about. The imperfections make the stories more interesting. 😉

PoArtMo (Positive Art Month) is in session!

PoArtMo stands for two things: Positive Art Month and Positive Art Moves.

  • Positive Art Month is a month dedicated to positive art. Every June, artists around the world are invited to create and celebrate positive art for 30 days. It can be absolutely anything art related: photography, poetry, short stories, sculptures, drawings, theatre, etc.
  • Positive Art Moves celebrates positivity and inspiration in art all year long.

PoArtMo is open to hobbyist, amateur and professional artists. Artists interested in participating in PoArtMo can do so by heading to this link to find out more, along with submissions opportunities for a PoArtMo Contest and a PoArtMo Anthology too:
