Val Shute at Florida State University is a big fan of Portal 2. She was amazed by how this game has made her think and have fun at the same time. Shute then decided to put this game to test and see if it can actually help improve a person’s brain by comparing it with Lumosity, a service that lets you pay to play a set of memory-improving brain games designed by experts in the field.

Shute has conducted the study among two groups, one instructed to play Portal 2 and Lumosity for the other. Then they were given a series of tests to examine their level of cognitive skills. Surprisingly, the group who’s played Portal 2 has performed way better than the group who played Lumosity.
“Portal 2 kicks Lumosity’s ass,” Shute told Popular Science. “If entertainment games actually do a better job than games designed for neuroplasticity, what that suggests is that we are clearly missing something important about neuroplasticity.”
This may give you another reason to play more video games, but be sure to play games that makes your brain work like Portal 2 or strategy games like Star Craft.
