Whenever someone makes plated milk bread in my family it doesn´t stay for long! Everybody loves eating it for breakfast. It goes perfect with butter and any jam and if you leave out the sugar you can also eat it with cheese and ham. But you can also easily freeze it! As every easter we went to church yesterday to bless some wine, bread, eggs  and easter ham. And today I brought one plated bun as a gift when we celebrated easter with the family. In my opinion this is a great old-fashioned gift which is really delicious and perfect for any occasion. Or just for oneself?… yum!

This is what you will need (for 2 buns)

  • 1kg all purpose flour
  • 250g sugar
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • coarse sugar
  • 3 eggs ( a little egg yolk+milk for brushing)
  • 250 ml milk
  • 150g butter

Combine flour, yeast and sugar on a working surface. Form a small mold in the middle of the flour and add eggs. Melt butter in a medium saucepan, add cold milk and combine with flour mixture. Knead dough until smooth using your hands. Set aside dough covered by a kitchen towel until dough has doubled for about an hour. Divide dough into 6 equal pieces then roll out each piece into a strand. Start braiding 3 strands. Lay on a parchment paper covered tray. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rise for about 15 minutes. Brush plated buns with egg yolk and milk mixture, sprinkle with coarse sugar and bake in oven for 175°C.

Serve warm or cold and enjoy!
