For my Thursdays Things posts I usually like to talk about things I love, or how you can score a decent designer knock-off, but today I wanted to talk about a place that I love….La Drogheria Dalla Pioggia.
La Drogheria Dalla Pioggia
I’ve been taking a walk down memory lane this week. On Monday I posted about how I ended up in Italy, and yesterday I showed you what I wore for a stroll through Bologna. I lived in Bologna for a year, and one of the things I miss the most were the curated and authentic mercantile stores. My favorite of these is the Drogheria Dalla Pioggia, located at 27 Via Galliera in the historic centre.
The term “drogheria” in Italian does not refer to a drugstore where you can buy medical supplies and medicine, that is “farmacia” like pharmaceuticals. A “drogheria” is a dry-goods store with things like; coffee, jams, marmalades, chocolates, candies, spices, pasta, cookies, oils, vinegars, teas, detergents and soaps.
I love this place! They sell EVERYTHING including leather and artisanally made manicure sets. I bought enzyme free laundry detergent for my son’s diapers and chocolate covered cherries.
Think of a drogheria as an antique, and much more beautiful version of your local convenience store, but instead of shoving things in a plastic bag they individually wrap each item in brown paper…. Now that’s service.
