THE OPENING TIP
• Pitt returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 25 (7 pm ET - ESPN3) at the Petersen Events Center against Cornell.
• Jeff Hathhorn (play-by-play) and Curtis Aiken (analyst) will call Wednesday’s contest for ESPN3. Bill Hillgrove (play-by-play) and Dick Groat (analyst) will have the radio call on the Pitt IMG Sports Network.
• The Panthers have won 15 straight home games in the month of November and have lost just one November home game under Jamie Dixon.
LAST TIME OUT
• Pitt improved to 2-0 on the year with a 95-79 win over Detroit as four Panthers scored in double-figures.
• Michael Young scored a game-high 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and three blocks, while Ryan Luther notched his first career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
• Jamel Artis (15) and Sheldon Jeter (10) also reached double-figures as 11 different Panthers scored.
• Pitt’s post rotation combined for 49 points on 17-of-24 (.708) shooting from the field in the win.
• Pitt posted a 50-19 advantage in points off the bench and also dominated second-chance points with a 23-6 edge.
• Detroit led 53-52 at the 15:26 mark in the second half before Pitt took over with a 28-6 run. The Panthers led by as many as 27 points in the second half.
• Eight different Panthers knocked down three-point field goals as Pitt finished 9-of-22 (.409) from three-point range for the contest.
BY THE NUMBERS
• The Panthers are 119-4 against non-conference opponents at the Petersen Events Center. Pitt has won 34 regular season non-conference home contests.
• Pitt is 55-1 all-time in the month of November at the Petersen Events Center with the lone loss coming to Long Beach State, 86-76, Nov. 16, 2011.
• Jamie Dixon has guided the Panthers to a 68-6 mark in the month of November, including a 52-1 record at the Petersen Events Center.
• Pitt is 43-19 against teams currently in the Ivy League, including a 3-0 mark under Jamie Dixon.
• The Panthers have won 11 straight games against teams currently in the Ivy League, dating back to a 110-72 road loss to Cornell Feb. 1, 1967.
• The trio of Jamel Artis, James Robinson and Michael Young has started 36 consecutive games as a unit. Young has started every game (72) of his career, while Robinson has started 104 of 105 career contests.
• James Robinson owns a career 3.32:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, tops in ACC history (minimum two years and 300 assists). Robinson has recorded more assists than turnovers in 99 of 105 career games.
• Michael Young ranks seventh in the ACC in scoring (18.5 ppg.), tied for ninth in rebounds (10.0 rpg.) and second in field goal percentage (.650). He is the only player in the conference to rank in the top 10 in all three categories.
• Ryan Luther is coming off his first career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Detroit. He has raised his averages by 9.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game from his freshman season.
• Pitt has received outstanding production from its bench in the early part of the season. Panther reserves are combining for 47.0 points per game with a season-best 50 points against Detroit.
• Pitt’s post rotation of Michael Young, Ryan Luther, Sheldon Jeter, Alonzo Nelson-Ododa and Rafael Maia combines to average 45.0 points per game, while shooting 65.4 percent (34-of-52) from the field.
• Pitt has had 11 or more players score in each game with nine Panthers scoring five or more points in each of the first two contests this season.
• The Panthers are averaging 16.5 offensive rebounds and 24.5 second chance points per game. Pitt has a 49-8 advantage on second chance points through two games.
• Junior Sheldon Jeter has scored in double-figures in each of the first two games, marking the second time in his career he has had back-to-back double-figure scoring games. Jeter netted 10 points in just nine minutes of action against Detroit.
• With a start Wednesday against Cornell, James Robinson will match Brandin Knight for the fifth-longest consecutive games started streak at Pitt. He enters the game with 90 straight starting assignments. Robinson will also match Marcus Paige (North Carolina) as the ACC active leader with 105 career starts.
• Pitt leads the ACC in total rebounds (50.0 rpg.), defensive rebounds (33.5 drpg.) and blocked shots (9.5 bpg.).
• Pitt ranks among the nation’s top-six programs in winning percentage (.750, 366-122) over the past 14 years. During that span, Pitt has made one NCAA Elite Eight appearance, five Sweet Sixteen appearances, won six Big East titles and has advanced to 12 of the last 14 NCAA Tournaments.
• Pitt is one of only nine schools nationally to advance to the NCAA Tournament in 12 of the last 14 seasons: Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, Michigan State, Pitt, Texas, Arizona, Louisville and Wisconsin.
• Pitt is the only team in the last 10 years to post wins over top 15 teams from Connecticut, Duke, Georgetown, Louisville, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia.
• Five Pitt players underwent offseason surgeries; Chris Jones (toe), Cameron Johnson (shoulder), Alonzo Nelson-Ododa (eye), James Robinson (foot) and Sterling Smith (foot). In addition, Rafael Maia (hand & foot) and Damon Wilson (shoulder & hamstring) missed time during the preseason due to injury."
