Pirates Trade For Phil Gosselin

By Kipper @pghsportsforum
Minor deal but Gosselin does have a fair bit of time in the majors serving as a bench player. He plays mainly second and third but has experience all over the diamond. He seems to be a more advanced version of the Hanson/Moroff/Bostick trio the Pirates had in place to serve as depth.
To acquire him they dealt Frank Duncan. I'm currently working on my top 30 prospects and Duncan wasn't going to be included there but he was just on the outside of it.
Pirates also traded for Pat Light yesterday. Former top prospect with a live arm but some control issues. Looks like he has some potential as a bullpen arm if they can get the control worked out.
To make room for these guys on the 40 man roster Lisalverto Bonilla and Nefi Ogando were DFA'd. In case you missed it they were arms acquired in a similar manner to Light. The Pirates no doubt are hoping to pass them through waivers. Basically this is just some bottom of the roster shuffling.
