A piñata pronounced pin yah ta is a container often made of something you can break into which is decorated, and filled with small toys or candy, or both, and then broken as part of a ceremony or celebration in the latin and mexican culture.
With this in mind, I decided that I would make an edible container i.e cake and fill with smarties!
As a Pinata is usually bright multi coloured, I would continue and follow the theme through, with multicoloured butter cream frosting and a little touch of glitter too.
You could use other sweets or chocolates to fill the inside, maybe all-sorts, haribos, M&Ms, nerds or even skittles to add and change the goodies inside.
I seen the big cake versions of the these ingenious idea, but not seen little baby versions like these cup cakes.
They are easy but can create a bit of wastage due to the colouring the icing and constant cleaning of piping bags, I think I need to buy some disposal piping bags.

300g Icing Sugar
1/2 Tsp Vanilla
1 Tbsp Milk
Add the margarine, sugar, flour, milk, egg, vanilla and baking powder to a large mixing bowl.
Mix on medium to high-speed for 2 minutes
Using a large scoop, evenly scoop into 12 muffin cases.
This recipe will make about 12 large cup cakes.
Bake in the oven at 170c for about 20-25 minutes.
Remove from the muffin tin and allow to cool.
Add the butter into a mixing bowl and cut the butter into smaller chunks.
Add the icing sugar, vanilla and milk and beat at medium high-speed
Ensure the butter cream is at the correct consistency by forming soft peaks that hold, if not add either more icing if too soft or milk if too stiff.Once cooled, using an apple corer or sharp knife, cut into the centre of the cup cake.
Remove the middle piece make sure you have a deep hole.
Cut off the top of the piece you have just removed and keep to the side.
Fill the hole was smarties, pressing down slighty to make sure its well filled.
Add the top of the cake back on.
Now by adding some gel colour paste, add a little purple to a small bowl with a little icing, mix well and pipe around the edge of the cup cake.
Now make up some blue icing, and pipe any inner circle on the cup cake.
Make up some orange and yellow and pipe onto the cup cake.
Decorate with any left over smarties and maybe some edible glitter and enjoy!
