Phosphorescent Gave a Startlingly Good Performance at Webster Hall [photos]

Phosphorescent played a sold out show at Webster Hall as part of his seemingly endless worldwide tour for the highly praised Muchacho released last year. The gentleman behind the name, Matthew Houck, remains a startling performer. Between his ability to pierce each word with the anguish of a broken heart and his punctuating yelps that seem to originate from overflowing emotion, you can’t help but feel all the feels.  The repertoire was predominantly from his newer album, including the favorite, “Song For Zula” and a full on jam session for “Ride On / Right On”, but there was also a few older songs like “Wolves” off of the 2007 album Pride for the fans that have been around for a while. He is playing Celebrate Brooklyn! with The National later next month. Tickets are (obviously) sold out, but if you can find a way in, it’ll definitely be worth your while.
