Are you a Doctor Who fan?
If so, you’d know that Doctor Who is a British television series that began in 1963, about the mysterious Doctor – a time-traveling Time Lord from another planet exploring the Universe in a sentient space ship called the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space), helping people, fighting evil, and saving entire civilizations, assisted by a successive series of human companions.
You’d also know there have been 12 actors who played Doctor Who, made possible by a clever plot devise. When The Doctor sustains an injury that would be fatal to other species, he regenerates into a new incarnation in a new body with a new personality. But through all the regenerations, The Doctor retains his salvific goodness and nonviolent ingenuity in problem-solving.
Here are the 12 Doctor Whos, identified by the actors:
- William Hartnell (1963-66)
- Patrick Troughton (1966-69)
- Jon Pertwee (1970-74)
- Tom Baker (1974-81)
- Peter Davison (1981-84)
- Colin Baker (1984-86)
- Sylvester McCoy (1987-98, 1996)
- Paul McGann (1996)
- Christopher Eccleston (2005)
- David Tennant (2005-2010)
- Matt Smith (2010-13)
- Peter Capaldi (2013)
