When John Kobal died of Aids last year I went to his funeral. A high Catholic requiem Mass. Very solemn. However the organist having played serious religious music for an hour or so felt it would be nice to play something showbiz for John. So, as the coffin was taken out, on its way to the crematorium, the organist played “Smoke gets in your eyes.”
