I heard on FM 105.9 The X this afternoon the Penguins' GM Jim Rutherford has made a decision on who he would like to hire as head coach. I understand an offer has not yet been made, and Rutherford will not disclose the name until at least that time. Hmm.

"Penguins on verge of offer to coach: report
The Pittsburgh Penguins reportedly have narrowed their search for a coach to one person.
General manager Jim Rutherford said Thursday the Penguins are "checking out a few things" before they extend a formal offer to the unnamed candidate, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and could announce their replacement for Dan Bylsma in the next two or three days.
"All eight guys I talked to did a good job (in the interviews)," Rutherford told reporter Shelly Anderson. "There are a few guys that I could have selected, but this one person is a guy with great character and leadership qualities. He’s very well-prepared."
The Penguins’ new coach will not be Bill Peters, who was reported to be a candidate. The Carolina Hurricanes hired the former Detroit Red Wings assistant as their coach Thursday.
Others who reportedly interviewed with the Penguins are: John Hynes, coach of their American Hockey League affiliate; Ulf Samuelsson, a New York Rangers assistant and former Penguins defenseman; Red Wings assistant Tom Renney; and former NHL coaches Ron Wilson and Marc Crawford.
Former NHL coach Doug MacLean told FAN 590 in Toronto on Thursday that he interviewed for the job, which has been vacant since Rutherford fired Bylsma on June 6, but said he was not a finalist."
