Some musicians are impossible to describe using typical genre classifications — they take the best parts of different musical styles and blend them together into their own unique sound. Patrick Sweany is just this sort of musician, touting a sort of desperate, bluesy longing in his vocals, expert guitar picking worthy of other folk heroes and electric guitar riffs that could hold their own against the rock gods.
His latest track and corresponding video shows off these emotive vocals in particular. The melody is soothing, yet the lyrics are full of angst and reflect a frustration that comes with a life on tour: “Come see about me / in the dark / when it starts / it’s a tough schedule to keep.” The single “First of the Week” is out on his latest LP, Daytime Turned to Nightime.
