This hugely informative infographic from CEO.com gives a really good insight into the growing amount of litigation surrounding patents and patent infringement. It is especially interesting in light of the recent Apple versus Samsung case.
Patent wars are, as the infographic states, crippling innovation as any move by a smaller company to do just that – innovate – is almost immediately threatened with a lawsuit, especially in America. While we can understand the need to protect ones intellectual property, there has to be a limit. Big companies cannot simply sue their way out of being beaten in the marketplace. It’s one thing for Apple / Samsung / Google to fight it out, it’s quite another when a start up gets slapped with a lawsuit for simply trying to make things better.
