Where is Patamda located?

Patamda is a small village located in the Patamda tehsil of East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. Surrounded by the Dalma hills, the village remains soaked in nature throughout the year. Patamda is 27 Kms from its nearest city of Jamshedpur and is located just opposite to the famous Dimna Lake of Jharkhand with one of the banks of the lake lying in Patamda.

Why is Patamda famous?

Patamda is one of the favorite picnic spots of the people of Jamshedpur but hardly it is found in any list quoting the 'Best picnic spots near Jamshedpur' making it one of the prime ' offbeat destinations near Jamshedpur '.

The lake is attached to a huge landscape thus making a natural arrangement for the picnickers. Patamda is treasured especially by the children, because of the huge landscape it offers which allows them to play without any hurdles. The picnickers can also cook food here without any restrictions. The water of the lake is clean and clear which is mostly used for cooking food during picnics but it is advisable to carry gallons of water for the purpose of cooking and drinking.

And also not to forget, one should definitely visit the village market for some extremely cheap fresh organic vegetables.

Patamda has a tropical climate. Summers stretches from the month of March to June, the temperature ranging between 35 to 49-degree centigrade. The rainy season begins in the month of July and continues till the month of September with an average rainfall of 1200 mm. The winter season ranges between November to February with the temperature dropping as low as 7-8 degree centigrades.

The best time to visit Patamda is during the months of December to February because the weather is cold, which makes it comfy to stay under the sun.

How to reach Patamda from Kolkata?

Patamda can be reached from Kolkata both by road and by rail.

The distance from Kolkata to Patamda is 296.1 km via NH16 which takes around six and a half hours to reach the destination. So, you can travel in your own vehicle or can book a private cab or a bus if traveling in a group.

The most convenient way to reach Patamda from Kolkata is by train. Board a train from Howrah Jn ( Station Code: HWH) to Tatanagar Jn ( Station Code: TATA). The journey via train will take nearly 4 hours to reach Tatanagar Jn. Some of the trains that run between Howrah Jn to Tatanagar Jn during the early morning hours are

  • Howrah - Barbil Jan Shatabdi Express
  • Ispat Express

After reaching Tatanagar Jn book a cab to Patamda. The distance between Tatanagar Jn to Patamda is 38.0 km via Barabhum- Banduan- Bandi- Dimna Lake- Tata - Jamshedpur- Deoghar Rd which will take nearly one and a half hours to reach the destination.

Patamda is a small village and a little far away from the nearest city of Jamshedpur, so here are a few tips to follow:

  • The best time to visit Patamda is between 6 am to 3 pm. Make sure you return back before the dawn as it becomes very secluded during the dark hours.
  • Do not leave children alone. Make sure you are always near them because there are no railings to safeguard them from the lake.
  • Carry water bottles, snacks, and refreshment items with you.
  • Carry the essential medicines along as there are no medical stores nearby.
