Paris Coat of Arms: It Floats!

Did you know that the coat of arms of Paris, a river city that lies far inland, is of a ship? The motto of the city is Fluctuat nec mergitur, "It floats but doesn't sink."

Because of this, you can see a ship symbolizing Paris in many different places, from election boards (above) to doorways to Paris theater-poster kiosks.
