Yes you heard me right. Paal Poli recipe.
This is a time of festivals and pujas, and the best part about them is the yummy delicacies that are made to make the festivals even more special. That brings us to today's post.
Paal poli is a simple sweet which has a lot of variations. It can be made with maida or sooji. Both taste almost same. But as you know we try to take the healthy way always.
So today we are making paal poli with rava/ semolina/sooji and here is a really simple paal poli recipe that you can try out. This Janmashtami, after dressing your little one as Krishna, you can treat him/her with yummy yet healthy version of paal poli.
Paal poli is ideal for toddlers of 1 year and above.
Easy and healthy paal poli recipe:
Take semolina in a bowl and using water knead it well, like 15 to 20 minutes so that the semolina becomes soft and the dough becomes whole.
Keep this covered for about an hour. Remember, the more the dough rests, softer the pooris. Here patience really pays off.
After about an hour, take the dough and knead it well again with the fingers folded.
Make small balls from the dough and roll the dough. Cut the rolled out dough into pooris. While rolling you can sprinkle a little maida for dusting.
Deep fry the pooris in oil and remove excess oil in kitchen towel. Keep them in a plate.
Take milk in a thick-bottomed pan and bring it to a boil. Once it boils well, the milk starts to thicken. Add sugar and continue boiling at least until the milk reduces to 2/3 rd. Add saffron and cardamom powder and remove from flame.
How to Serve Paal poli:Keep some milk for aside, take the rest and add this milk over the pooris in the plate. Flip the pooris and make them get soaked well on both sides.
Now shift the pooris to the serving bowl. Pour the milk kept aside on top. Sprinkle grated badam or pistas and serve.
Note:
- This can be done in a jiffy, if we are using maida as no resting is needed for the dough.
- You can use chiroti rava (fine variety of rava) for better results.
- Make small pooris or big ones folded is completely your choice. I just made in the traditional way of folding the pooris.
- You can adjust the sugar if you want, by tasting the shortened milk preparation. This dish is not meant to be too sweet.
- You can also serve this chilled, just chill the milk and pour over before serving.
- You can soak few cashews and almonds in milk or water. Grind this to a fine paste and add to the milk and boil for another 2 minutes. This gives a rich creamy taste.
