Welcome back to our January daily blog series, “Overcoming the Sorrow of Being Single”.
What Do You Want More Than God
Ruth replied to Naomi, “Your People will be my people, and your God will be my God.”
Ruth wanted God more than anything. She loved Him just for who He is and her actions showed it. Through the course of her devotion, God faithfully provided for her.
In God, she received the desires of her heart. Redemption, protection, and love was hers for the asking because she put nothing before Him.
If we want anything more than we want God, it’s pleasure will satisfy for only a little while. Discontentment will find us again and again. Only God can make us whole.
The desire for marriage is good, but without God the very thing that we thought would take our sorrow away, adds more sorrow. How can we be blessed without first exalting the source from which all blessings flow?
Ruth could have returned to her homeland of Moab and sought after the gods of that land. Moab seemed to provide a better chance of marrying again. Instead, Ruth wanted God more than Moab; and God provided for her more than Moab ever could.
When we want God more than anything, love God more than anything, think of Him more than anything…we gain everything.
The Prophet Isaiah said, “Here I am Lord, send me.” The Apostle Paul said, “…what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.” King David declared, “as the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pant for you, My God”.
What statement of affirmation will you make to the Lord today?
Lord, I want you more than ________________________.
Love God with your whole heart, just for who He is, and your blessings will come down.
